What are the options for an infrared camera low cost?

I wonder how infrared cameras are affordable. I'm not looking make-believe at all – nothing to play for collecting the signatures of heat / infrared light.

Many digital cameras and camcorders that make good photographs with a source of infrared light. Turn off the flash and pre-set focus on the distance to the subject.
