Why are lips a different color than the rest of your skin?
Besides that, what is the purpose of lips? What evolutionary function does raised (muscle? fat?) have around our mouth. Is it to keep it sealed? But then why are they a different color?
Lips are darker red simply because they’re thinner, and they’re thin because that provides for increased sensitivity. Blood vessels (capillaries really) are closer to the surface, giving them this relatively unusual color. The same is true in… ahem…. other unusually sensitive parts of the body.
