During the Fall, leaves on deciduous trees change color. Why they change to orange,red,or yellow?
Dureing the Fall, leaves on deciduous trees change color. This is becuase the green chlorophyll pigments, molecules which capture sunlight in the cholroplasts, function poorly. During the fall, these pigments slowly fade away, which allows other pigments (red, orange, yellow) to appear. Why do these chlorophyll molecules function poorly in the fall? (HINT: discuss light intensity and temperature)
the colder the temp is, the slower photosynthesis work so pigments absorb light slower. and light intensity weakens (i think!) so the pigments do not absorb the lights very well. the colors in the sunlight’s visible spectrum change and get absorbed in the pigments according to temp.
